When was the last time you rode a bike? I remember having so much fun on my bike as a kid. Wind in my hair riding around the street with my friends from school. A few years ago I was talked into doing the MS Sydney to the Gong charity bike ride. I’ll be honest; having not been on a bike in about 10 years and purchasing a $100 Aldi bike I had my doubts that I would actually make the 60km trip. But; low and behold not only did I make it, I found a new love for cycling and recently bought my husband a bike as well so we can both ride together on weekends.
I’m disappointed that I will actually be in Melbourne this weekend because I would have totally done Loop The Lake on Sunday. Alas; I will be at an Ed Sheeran concert instead this year but the event is on my list for 2019.
ON YA BIKE!
This weekend The Rotary Club of Warners Bay is holding their annual charity bike dire LOOP THE LAKE. Whether you are in it for fun, family time or fitness there is a ride for everyone! There are 43km, 85km and family ride (7km – 11km) distance options so you should be able to find something that suits you.
The main event commences at 7am on Sunday 11th March and you can register on the day (gives you a chance to check the weather forecast before committing – a sunny day with a moderate temperature of 24 degrees is the current forecast, perfect for a day cycling by the beautiful Lake Macquarie). The family ride kicks off between 9:30 – 10:30am from Spears Point.
The team from our favourite community radio station Lake Macquarie FM 97.3 will be broadcasting live from the Doylo from 9am. Come on down and say hi! Put a face the the voice of your favourite presenter.
Cycling Not Your Thing?
Pack a picnic lunch and get the family together and head down to Spear Point Park. The play equipment is next level! The kids will be in heaven! Parks and Leisure Australia has named this playground the “Best Play Space in Australia”. Also, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects gave the park the Design Award for Excellence.
This event is a fun day out, a great way to see the beautiful Lake Macquarie and all while keeping fir and supporting the local community.
